Biography
Michael Hall joined the Duke Ellington faculty in 2023 as a collaborative pianist for the vocal department. In addition to teaching piano and working as a freelance accompanist, Michael plays principal horn of the National Philharmonic at Strathmore Hall, an orchestra he has served with for 20 years. He has toured with the China National Symphony Orchestra and has played with the (USA) National Symphony Orchestra, Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Maryland Lyric Opera Orchestra, Richmond Symphony, and numerous other local groups throughout the Eastern Seaboard. Music has taken him as far as Brazil, China, Italy, South Korea, Portugal and Qatar, as well as to many major domestic venues including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Meyerhoff, the Baltimore Lyric, National Theatre, Wolf Trap, etc. He has had the opportunity to perform with such legends as Wynton Marsalis, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin and Stephen Curtis Chapman. Michael graduated as a scholarship student from the Peabody and Cincinnati Conservatories.
