JACQUELINE HAMMOND

Biography

Jacqueline Hammond received a Master of Arts from University of Maryland School of Dance, Theatre and Performance Studies and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from N.Y.U. Tisch School of the Arts. She is an active member of the Voice and Speech Trainers Association, The Association of Teachers in Higher Education and Actor’s Equity Association.
Ms. Hammond has taught Acting and Voice for more than 40 years in Actor-Training programs including Howard University, Florida State Conservatory at the Asolo State Theatre, Carnegie Mellon University and New York University where she has taught the vocal aspects of Acting using the Linklater approach. Her voice-directing credits include The Call, On the Stoop, and Flyin’ West, Don’t Bother Me, I Can’t Cope, and Your Arm’s Too Short to Box with God with the Vinnette Carroll Theatre, and Dangerous Acts with the Lortel Theatre. She has also been certified as a teacher of Authentic Speech – The Colaianni approach.
As an artist who endeavors to foster theatre for social development, she continues to research and write about Black Voices and their effect on global cultures. She is currently researching The Voice of the Griot: The Extra-Ordinary Sound of Black Sonics. She is committed to providing the best possible training for future artists while bringing forward the oral traditions and history of African-American Performance.
